“Starting with an overall idea of autumnal fruits this piece had several sources. The pumpkins were mostly prompted by William Hammer's painting 'Baskets of Fruit on the Steps of a Terrace' (1852). The picture had many other details that would translate into needlepoint; however the only other one I have used is the stone-tiled floor. The same artist also painted a still life of 'Figs, Walnuts, an Orange and a Lemon', from which I garnered ideas for the rest of my design.”. Jill Gordon
