Millennia Designs: Patchwork Heart Quilt Cushion
This beautiful design is based on the central panel of an appliquéd wedding quilt made in New Jersey between 1825 and 1850. During this century it became a popular tradition for the bride-to-be to make 13 quilts before she was married: twelve would be for everyday use, whilst the thirteenth was only used for special occasions. Whilst friends could help stitch the everyday quilts, the wedding quilt could only be worked by the bride herself. It is very interesting to note, that due to the high cost of fabric, the backing and interlining material were not purchased until the wedding was absolutely certain to proceed!
Although this design is obviously perfect as an heirloom wedding gift, it would look gorgeous in a country-style interior or for anyone who loves patchwork & heart motifs!
