Bothy Threads 'Waiting for the Shop to Open' Tapestry Kit

An urban scene taken from painting by the artist Lawrence Stephen Lowry (1887 - 1976). The original painting is dated 1943 and is now housed in Manchester City Art Gallery. It shows a queue of people outside a greengrocer's shop waiting for it to open. In a letter dated 24th November 1948 Lowry wrote "Waiting for the Shop to Open is simply a queue outside a shop, waiting for the proprietor to open the door. We saw a lot of these queues during the war times, and even now quite a fair amount of it is still going on". The number 117 on the door is Lowry's address, 117 Station Road, Pendlebury.
